- Fans - Functional Tests - D0501 and no more audio

Latitude 7280

Latitude 7280

this morning the audio stopped working.  I did a diagnostic test and this is the result: - Fans - Functional Tests - D0501.  The fan has not done any unusual sound or noise.  how can a fan problem prevent the audio from working?  how do I fix the problem, fan and audio?

Maybe the fan error is a separate issue.  While the audio test passed the hardware functioning, a software side such as driver may have been the cause of the no audio issue.

You can download and reinstall the audio driver below.  Remember to check the box to perform clean install.  After the installation is complete, reboot the machine and test your audio again.

@Chino de Oro

thank you for your help.  I reinstalled the audio driver you suggested and the audio is still not working.  Regarding the fan malfunction, should I replace the fan and hope it will solve the fan problem.  I am really puzzled by all these sudden malfunctions as yesterday everything was fine.  Could it be that a recent update be responsible?

I am using a latitude 7280 with windows 11 which apparently is not supported by a latitude 7280.  should I downgrade?

For audio issue, check BIOS settings and verify if audio is enable.  Check Device Manager to see if Realtek audio driver has been installed properly.  Reinstall this chipset driver to see if it may help

For system fan and heatsink, you can replace the whole assembly for $19 usd with OEM part from Dell  https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-heatsink-assembly-with-fan-for-latitude-7280-7290-7380-7390/apd/km50t/pc-accessories

For Windows 11, a downgrade may not fix the fan issue.  I would not advise to do so.
